Orkney Yole with a beautiful elliptical stern. Built in 2011 in Stromness by Ian Richardson, Scotland.
The Ecliptic Stern Yole—also known as the elliptical-stern yole—is a unique variation of the traditional Orkney Yole. The main difference lies in the shape of the stern: whereas the classic working yole tapers to a point at both ends, this variant has a rounded, elliptical transom. This modified hull shape was developed for better sailing performance, particularly in races.
The hull is crafted from high-quality wood and underwent a complete refit in 2025. All fittings are made of bronze. Even without rigging, the boat is a stunning sight, and its classic lines make it a charming presence in historic canals and harbors.
The rigging consists of a gaff-rigged mainsail, a furling jib, and a light-weather genoa, which is also furling.
The ship has a deck tent that completely encloses the cockpit.
